Detailed description of Fords Colony Williamsburg, Marsh Hawk Golf Course

Ford's Colony At Williamsburg is a Semi-Private, 54 hole golf course facility located in Williamsburg, Virginia. Ford's Colony has three 18-hole championship golf courses, Blackheath, Marsh Hawk, and Blue Heron.

All three courses play through rolling terrain, lined with mature pines, and the fairways are all defined by a thick cut of rough.

The Marsh Hawk Course was designed by Dan Maples. The course opened in 1985. It is similar in style to the Blackheath and Blue Heron courses. The rolling fairways are flanked by mature trees and water on several occasions. Tight tree-lined fairways mean you better bring your “A” game. This course plays from 5,369 to 6,650-yardsand plays to a par of 72.

The Blue Heron Course opened in June, 2000 and was designed by architect Dan Maples. It plays from 5,178 to 6,266-yards at a par of 72, and was created from 9 new holes combined with what was formerly known as the Blue Nine that dated to 1985. The course has long and challenging par 3’s, fair and forthright par 4’s and intimidating par 5’s. Blue Heron provides some room for error off of the tee, however makes up for the easy with its well protected greens. Set among Virginia’s dense wetlands, this unique setting is home to many different birds, fish and other aquatic life.

The Blackheath Course opened June, 1999 and was also designed by Dan Maples. This course is a combination of the preexisting Gold Course nine that dated to 1985 and nine new holes. The Blackheath is designed as a links style course, with rolling fairways lined by Colonial style homes and mature oaks, sycamores and maples. It plays from 4,523 to 6,621-yards and a par of 71. You will face water on 13 holes, there are 9 doglegs to challenge you and bunkers guarding every green. There are many elevation changes and the prevailing winds just might provide more challenge. The course plays a lot longer than the 6,621 yards stated on the scorecard.
